Accommodation Database

The website uses data from the DataTourisme platform to list and classify several types of accommodations:

  • Campgrounds: classified by category (unclassified, 1–3 stars, 4–5 stars).
  • Specialized campgrounds: farm campgrounds, natural camping areas, naturist campgrounds.
  • Other accommodations: youth hostels, hiking lodges, mountain refuges, hiker shelters.

Filters allow users to refine searches:

  • Tent pitches.
  • Open all year round.
  • “Accueil Vélo” certified accommodations.
  • Municipal accommodations.
  • Presence of hiker cabins.
  • RandoCamping user reviews.

Each accommodation is displayed on the map with an icon providing access to a detailed information sheet including contact details, photos, practical information, and user reviews.

Two buttons, « Leave a Review » and « Improve this Listing », allow users to leave feedback and suggest improvements to the accommodation page.

If an accommodation has received recommendations, a « Read User Reviews » button appears on the listing.

Badges such as “Tent pitches”, “Open all year”, “With cabins”, “Municipal”, “User reviews”, and “Accueil Vélo” help identify the accommodation’s features.

Contributions and Recommendations

Users can contribute to the platform by:

  • suggesting the addition, modification, or removal of an accommodation (via the “Contribute” submenu). Submissions are reviewed before validation.
  • posting reviews to recommend accommodations they appreciated.

Accommodation Search

Along a Route or Near Locations

Users can import a GPX track and search for accommodations located near their route or near selected points on the map.

Selected accommodations can be:

  • Downloaded as a PDF file containing all useful information.
  • Exported as a GPX file including accommodation locations and details.
  • Saved in the user area as a shareable link.

Maps

By default, the map background uses OpenStreetMap, but users can also choose between CyclOSM, TopoMap, or IGN raster maps.

Users can also choose between several vector map styles: « Light map », « Minimal map », or « Detailed map ».

Hiking and Cycling Routes

Hiking and cycling routes from Waymarked Trails can be displayed together with accommodations and passenger railway lines.

Personal Area

The personal area allows users to save favorites, accommodation selections, and GPX files.

  • Local browser storage by default
  • Quick reopening of saved selections and tracks
  • Sharing via link
  • Optional cloud synchronization for logged-in users

GPX tracks, accommodation selections, and favorites (accommodations and maps) can be shared between users using a simple link.

Train Module

The Train module displays passenger railway lines and railway stations in France.

By clicking on a station, users can access information such as:

  • Platform accessibility for non-folded bicycles
  • Direct links to SNCF timetables, regional TER pages, and SNCF Connect
  • Links to regional bicycle reservation services
  • Visualization of stations accessible without transfers
  • Display of the route between the selected station and another destination station
  • Detailed map of the station surroundings and a direct link to Google Maps

A « Help describe platform accessibility » button allows users to contribute information to the platform.

Route Editing and Calculation

Users can:

  • Create and edit routes (automatic routing, merging, splitting).
  • Change the routing mode (BRouter, OpenRoute Service).
  • Export routes in GPX format.
  • Add, remove, and export points of interest (POI) as markers.
  • Visualize the elevation profile of the track. Users can zoom in on the profile to view slope details at a specific point of the route.

Users can customize the BRouter profile in the user settings.
These settings allow users to refine the behavior of the selected BRouter profile:

  • prioritize signposted cycling routes (EuroVelo, etc.),
  • avoid dangerous high-traffic roads,
  • exclude ferry crossings,
  • or prefer smoother road surfaces.

Geolocation and GPS Tracking

The map can be centered on the user’s current location using geolocation. While moving, the map automatically stays centered on the user’s position.

Go There

The « Go There » feature allows users to quickly calculate a route between their current location and a point selected directly on the map. Combined with GPS tracking, this makes it easy, for example, to quickly reach an accommodation.

Plan My Trip

From a GPX file, the application automatically splits your route into daily stages according to the selected number of days and effort level, then searches for accommodations matching your criteria.

Each stage remains fully customizable:

  • Add a stage (full day, half day, or rest day)
  • Remove a stage
  • Manually move a stage
  • Lock stages to preserve fixed points during recalculations

The route can also be precisely adjusted using the route editing and calculation tool so that stages match the accommodations selected on the map through filters.

Once your trip is finalized, you can:

  • Export a single stage or the full route in GPX format
  • Reopen and modify your project at any time after saving

Google Street View

With a simple click on the map background, users can access Google Street View 360° imagery — a practical way to check where their route passes.
